COAL CREEK FALLS

The path gently descends down to the Coal Creek valley though a mixed beech-podocarp forest.

The pool below the falls is a nice place to cool off with a swim in the hot summer months.

Take particular care to look out for underwater rocks and logs before jumping in.

POINT ELIZABETH WALKWAY

A stunning, well surfaced, coastal walkway. Enjoy walking through varied and interesting forest to a panoramic, cliff top viewing platform. Point Elizabeth track is a perfect walk for families and children.

The track is mostly level, as it follows an old water race that miners used to sluice their gold claims.

THE BRUNNER MINE SITE

Allow at least 1 hr to explore this historic site. The walk is approximately 2 km but the site can be explored without walking the full distance.

This was one of the country's earliest industrial sites where coal was mined and coke, firebricks and other products were manufactured from the 1860s until the 1940s. The area is well interpreted with a short walk around the historic coke ovens, brick factory and the remains of tunnel entrances.

SHANTYTOWN HERITAGE PARK

Shantytown Heritage Park. A leading culture and heritage attraction made up of over 30 pioneer buildings. Recreated 19th century pioneer town - Inspired by The West Coast Gold Rushes of the 1860s. Great activity for all ages. Visit the Museum, Steam Collection and Foundry, enjoy a Steam Train ride, visit Chinatown and the Sawmill, watch the Holographic Theatre and take the opportunity to go panning for Gold.
